Designer Jenni Kayne's Guide To Personal Style
As fashion designers go, Jenni Kayne just might be one of the most relaxed creative geniuses we've ever encountered. Her laidback, effortlessly chic line of Cali-girl cool clothes and accessories have made her a favorite of high-profile stars like Mandy Moore and Jessica Alba, not to mention a big hit at Shen — Jess herself can't get enough of Jenni's designs.
In addition to their California roots, she and Jess share another thing in common in that they both started their businesses early in life. Jenni was just 19(!) when she launched her first collection back in 2003. She became a household name in 2013 when her d'Orsay flats became the "It" shoe of the year, beloved by fashion designers and celebs alike. Since then she's grown her business with retail stores across the country and her list of high-profile fans keeps growing.
For this week's The Regimen, we sat down with Jenni to talk about her best style tips, the beauty products she can't get enough of, and her holistic replacement for Botox. Keep reading to learn more.

Name: Jenni Kayne
Profession: Founder and designer, Jenni Kayne
Skin type: Combination
Hair type: Curly
Duration of beauty routine: Too quick to count
Walk us through your daily routine:
I always wash my face with an oil or balm, then I use a hydrosol spray from Evan Healy, followed by a series of serums from Kristina Holey. Next up is a face oil and if I have time I'll do gua sha, then I'll apply a face balm. Retrouvé Eye Cream is my splurge, but it's so worth it and it lasts forever. I'll finish everything off with a tinted moisturizer with SPF, followed by some clear brow gel, mascara, and concealer if I need it. I wash my hair once or twice a week and use a hair oil daily.
What's your philosophy on beauty?
Keep it simple and clean, always.
What's your best beauty advice?
Embrace aging gracefully. I've never done injections, but I love microcurrent and facial acupuncture, as well as gua sha and jade rolling to stimulate blood flow.
What are your three must-have products?
Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum, RMS Un Cover-Up, and Kosas Lip Fuel. All three give your face a natural, effortless glow.
Do you have any special application tips or techniques?
I learned a while back to only apply serums to your face when it is still damp from your hydrosols or toners.

What's the biggest beauty mistake you've ever made?
Impulse buying too many new products. You need to get to know something first.
What do you love most about your job?
I love being inspired and creating beautiful, timeless pieces that women will love for years to come.
What is your favorite item in your closet right now?
That's impossible to answer! When in doubt, I always choose my Jenni Kayne mules, so they're definitely at the top of the list.
What's one surprising thing people might not know about you as a designer?
Even though my name is on the door, I'd much rather be working behind the scenes with my team.
What's your best advice for developing your own personal style?
My approach to personal style is simple: Find a daily uniform that makes you look and feel your best. Becoming a mother really forced me to edit my wardrobe. Rather than reinvent myself daily, I landed on a uniform that was comfortable, classic, and suited to my lifestyle. It's tempting to play around with trends, but I find that focusing on timeless items not only takes the effort out of getting dressed, but also leaves room for subtle style moments that feel special.
