Consignment Brooklyn's Eva Dayton On Sustainable Fashion & The Clean Dirt

As the owner and founder of Consignment Brooklyn (formerly known as Eva Gentry Consignment) Eva Dayton has been the consignment shop for cool kids ever since she first opened her doors on Atlantic Avenue 16 years ago.

Her stylist background and expert eye has given her and the shop a well-earned rep as the place to go for the best, most unique designer pieces. She's also a FoS (Friend of Shen) and a fellow female founder, so of course we're big fans.

For this edition of The Regimen, we asked Eva to share some of her beauty staples, what makes consignment fashion so unique, and why shopping small can have a big impact on your neighborhood. Keep reading to learn why we're all about Eva.

Name: Eva Dayton

Profession: Owner & founder of Consignment Brooklyn

Skin type: Combination

Hair type: Dry and thick

Duration of beauty routine: 10 minutes in the morning (I’m always in a hurry), 20 minutes before bed (end of day self care is my fave).

Walk us through your daily beauty routine:
In the morning, a quick rinse of my face followed by two serums one face lotion. My hair is crazy wild so I usually soak it out and let it go or put it into a low twisted knot. For makeup, I prefer a tint on my cheeks for color, a strong brow, and then a quick mascara and maybe a light pink lipgloss. If I have meetings or am going out for the evening, I'll go for a strong lip color.

What is your philosophy on beauty?
Keep it clean and simple

What is your best beauty advice?
Always wash your face before bed — and not a lot of makeup!

What is the best beauty advice you've ever been given, and by whom?
My facialist — the only one to touch my skin in the last 12 years — told me that the eating clean is the first step to great skin.

What are your 3 must-have products and why?
Westman Atelier Peau de Pêche Super Loaded Tinted Highlight — I love clean and natural looking make up and this does the trick for me. Nécessaire The Body Lotion  is super light on my skin and feels so restorative. And May Lindstrom The Clean Dirt because it feels dirty but also feels rejuvenating at the same time! I've been using her products since she started making them.

What do you love most about your job?
I have been working in fashion my whole life and while it's always changing, I love that you can wear the same pair of jeans (what I live in) with a different top every day and still feel like you’ve changed your “look”. I also love meeting and connecting with new people and new faces. I’m a Gemini and I love a challenge — it lights my fire!

Why do you think it's so important for people to shop small businesses?
I believe you should buy what you love and what works best for you, but be smart about what you are buying and who you are buying it from. I am a true believer in shopping within my community and getting to know my neighborhood. Getting to know the friendly faces in the small shops, having that one-on-one help, and supporting a small business.
